OPEL ARENA to welcome 1,000 fans for DFB-Pokal

Hofmann "convinced that our concept can ensure the responsible, gradual return of even more fans."

Under the floodlights and in front of the fans: Mainz will play a competitive match in front of fans for the first time since March when they face Havelse.

1. FSV Mainz 05 will play the first round of the DFB-Pokal in front of 1,000 fans when they face TSV Havelse on 11th September (20:45 CEST). Mainz local authorities, in agreement with the local department for public health, approved the plans on Wednesday afternoon.

Mainz 05 put forward a very thorough proposal on Tuesday, which would allow the responsible, gradual return of fans to the OPEL ARENA while still complying with guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. TSV Havelse gave up the right to host the match for organisational reasons.

"We are really looking forward to welcoming fans back to the OPEL ARENA. This has been one of our main aims for the start of the season. We are grateful to receive the green light from the city and the relevant authorities. We are convinced that our concept can ensure the responsible, gradual return of even more fans. The city of Mainz told us that this may be possible,” said club chairman Stefan Hofmann.
